HAVE YOU READY THE TRUCKS FOR WINTER?

Winter is coming soon, as always - unexpectedly. Some truck owners can wait for it quietly because they know their transport is ready for the cold season, others may remember it too late.

Use only suitable (i.e. winter) quality fuel. When the fuel freezes, the car just stops. Another important part of the fuel system is the filters. Modern tractor fuel supply systems have several: a primary or coarse cleaning filter that filters out larger impurities and traps residual water in the diesel, and a secondary fuel filter that collects smaller impurities in the smaller diameter. The efficiency of the engine depends very much on the quality of the latter filter, so it is very important to change both fuel filters in time, and it is worth having a set of spare fuel filters when driving in particularly harsh areas.

The low pressure pump is one of the main components of the fuel supply system. It ensures that the appropriate pressure of fuel reaches the injectors. If the pump is worn, the pressure is too low and too little fuel enters the injectors. The engine does not run smoothly or may stop at all. The difficulty is that the "road" will not be able to solve such a problem, so when the truck stops, it will have to be transported to a service center. To prevent this, it is recommended to check the pressure in the fuel supply system as winter approaches.

Before winter, it is necessary to check the fuel supply system of the tractor: for leaks in the fuel line, to make sure that the hoses are not leaking, that the manual fuel pump is running, that no air has entered the system itself, and that the fuel injectors and low-pressure fuel pump are working properly. These fuel system circuits play a particularly important role in engine performance. Failure in them, especially in winter, with cold weather and temperatures well below zero, is a major concern. We recommend checking the operation of the entire fuel supply system as winter approaches.

There may be water left in the fuel tank, so it is advisable to at least check the tank when it is cold and clean it if it is suspected. On the other hand, preventive cleaning of the tank will also not hurt. It is no secret that not only moisture accumulates in the tanks, but also various sediments in the fuel, so the cleaner the tanks, the better the tractor engines will work.

Always remember about the tires and their condition. Are your avi and semi-trailer tires with the right tread? In the case of bad or unsuitable tires, even on one axle of the vehicle, the situation may become unmanageable, endangering not only other road users but also anyone in the vicinity of the multi-tonne formation.

Do you know what your tractor brakes are and how efficient the braking system is? Can they stop not only the tractor but also the semi-trailer effectively enough? And how will the formation behave on a slippery or snowy road where the stopping distance becomes particularly important? In order to avoid such issues, it is important to check the brake system before winter. This can be done both on the brake bench and in real conditions in a safe environment. If the brake pads of a worn-out tractor do not brake effectively or unevenly enough, you should save money as winter approaches and fix this, one of the most important of the systems. Special attention should be paid to the drivers and owners of the trains, as the number of wheels has a direct effect on the braking efficiency of the trains, so it would be very sad if any of the wheels locked or stopped braking at the right time.

As the air cools, the way the car's main electrical systems work becomes very important. Only the smooth operation of these systems allows to avoid possible problems on the road and unexpected technical problems, so before the winter get used to check the condition of the tractor batteries, to assess their performance in particularly cold weather. It is also necessary to check how the generator of the electrical system works, whether it charges the battery efficiently, which is particularly heavy during the cold period. The condition of the tractor's heating system is also important. Check the operation of the window defroster and the optional autonomous cab heater to ensure the desired air temperature at the driver's work and rest area. Stagnant operation of these systems and devices prevents the driver from not only resting properly but also from working.

When the tractor is operated where there is a lot of snow, additional measures should be taken to successfully overcome the snowfall and snow accumulations. One such tool is the chains that are hung on the drive wheels to help overcome half and unclean roads. It is also always worth having traditional folk tools on hand - a shovel and a bag of gravel.

Also, do not forget to change the operating fluids of the tractor as winter approaches, check the condition of the wiper blades, the lamps and the alarm systems. Safe trips.
